Our Mission
The Mission of Third Ward Concerned Neighbors is to bring about a better understanding and respect for the contributions of black fold in Gettysburg and surrounding areas through discovery, preservation and education.
Further, to enhance the safety and living standards within the neighborhood and maintain the architectural integrity of the Third Ward.
Our Vision
The Vision of Third Ward Concerned Neighbors is to establish a black history museum and interpretive site, both located within the Third Ward of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
In addition, to support the physical refurbishment of the houses and streets, in particular Washington, Breckenridge, and High Streets, located in one of the most historic areas of Gettysburg.
The Reason
To unearth Gettysburg's Black History. It is critical that we begin to share this history with others especially the children for whom this information will provide a sense of pride and respect in our rich history and heritage. Local historians and other enthusiasts have researched and uncovered family histories, narratives, photographs, public records, oral interviews and published documents that highlight the many achievements of Gettysburg and Adams County African Americans.
